Empty Faces

Empty faces all around

With heavy eyes and barren smiles;

Underneath, an unsaid secret

Of rejection, pain and fear.

Who looks beyond the empty face

And finds a heart so cheerful?

Who notices the heavy eyes

And stays to dry the tears?

Who sees through the barren smile

And sends the spirit laughing?

Who knows the rejection, pain and fear,

And loves you all the same?

Empty faces all around

With heavy eyes and barren smiles;

Alone in their small prisons

With doors that need no keys.
