When

When will the soldiers cease their marching?

When there’s no more to trample?

When will the guns cease their firing?

When all’s in ruin and in flames?

When will the airplanes cease their bombing?

When nothing’s up and standing?

When will the nations cease their warring?

When there’s no more to struggle?

When will the leaders cease their wrangling?

When all’s carved up and broken?

When will the people cease their whining?

When nothing’s left to own?

When will the world around cease striving?

When, I’ll never know.

When will the world around cease striving?

When, He only knows.
